ALUK Flush Windows & Residence Entrance Door Installation in Banstead

At GHI Windows, we believe that upgrading a home should never come at the expense of its character. Many period and character properties have distinctive architectural features that deserve to be preserved, even when modern performance upgrades are required.
One of our recent projects in Banstead perfectly demonstrates how thoughtful design and carefully selected products can enhance a home while staying true to its heritage.
The property featured original Crittall-style slimline windows, which are well known for their elegant proportions and refined sightlines. The homeowner was keen to retain this timeless look and was understandably cautious about replacing the windows with anything that might disrupt the original aesthetic.
Our task was to deliver a solution that respected the building’s heritage while significantly improving energy efficiency, security, and overall comfort.
Products Used:
- ALUK Flush Aluminium Windows
- Residence 7 Side Windows
- Residence Entrance Door
Finding the Right Window Solution
Initially, the homeowner considered Residence 9 or Residence 7 flush window styles, both popular choices for traditional properties in Surrey. However, after careful evaluation, it became clear that these systems were not the best match for this particular home.
With frame sightlines measuring around 164mm, they appeared too bulky when compared to the original Crittall windows. This additional thickness would have reduced the visible glass area and detracted from the light, refined appearance that defined the property.
To overcome this, we recommended ALUK flush aluminium windows. These offered much slimmer profiles while still providing a flush finish that aligned beautifully with the home’s traditional character. Aluminium was the ideal choice, allowing us to recreate the delicate proportions of the original windows without compromising on strength or performance.

Finishing Details That Make the Difference
The ALUK Flush windows were installed with a flush upgrade and finished in a matt white colour, which complemented the exterior of the property perfectly.
To ensure continuity with the original design, we incorporated astragal Georgian bars that mirrored the existing window layout. This attention to detail helped maintain the historic charm of the home while delivering modern benefits such as improved thermal efficiency.
The result was a seamless blend of old and new, with windows that perfectly suited the property’s period style but performed to modern standards.
Upgrading the Entrance
The project also included the renovation of the porch area, which originally featured timber elements.
To achieve a like-for-like replacement while improving durability and performance, we installed Residence 7 side windows alongside a new Residence entrance door system. These products were chosen for their ability to replicate the appearance of traditional timber while offering superior insulation and security.
The new entrance door enhanced the visual appeal of the home and provided peace of mind through its advanced locking systems and robust construction.
